About Our Clients

Our client manages a portfolio of four consumer brands spanning home fragrance, energy bars, men's grooming, and better-for-you snacks.

These brands operate in the direct-to-consumer (DTC) e-commerce space, with a significant portion of revenue coming from subscriptions. Email and SMS marketing play a critical role in customer onboarding, retention, and long-term customer value.

We are looking for a hands-on Email & SMS Marketing Manager to own email and SMS execution across its portfolio.

This role reports directly to the Head of Retention, who oversees overall strategy and performance targets.

The ideal candidate is someone who works directly inside Klaviyo every day, personally building flows, segments, templates, campaigns, and automation. You will also own SMS execution end to end.

This is an individual contributor role, not a team management or agency management position.

We are specifically looking for someone who builds and executes campaigns themselves rather than directing others to do the work.

Key responsibilities

• Email Marketing Execution

• Personally build, test, and maintain lifecycle email flows across multiple Shopify DTC brands, including welcome, abandoned browse and cart, post-purchase, replenishment, winback, subscription lifecycle, dunning, failed payment recovery, and cancellation prevention.

• Build and manage email campaigns directly inside Klaviyo, from segmentation and copywriting through setup, QA, sending, and reporting.

• Develop customer segments based on purchase history, customer behavior, subscription status, and engagement.

• Manage email campaign calendars and ensure consistent execution across multiple brands.

• Build and maintain reusable email templates and modules while adapting messaging to each brand's voice.

• Write compelling email copy, including subject lines, preview text, body copy, and promotional messaging.

• Manage email deliverability, list health, suppression policies, sunset strategies, sending domains, inbox placement, and domain warm-up.

• SMS Marketing Ownership

• Personally manage SMS marketing campaigns and automation using Klaviyo SMS, Attentive, Postscript, or similar platforms.

• Build and maintain SMS flows, including welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, subscription reminders, replenishment, and retention campaigns.

• Develop SMS campaign calendars and manage messaging frequency to maximize revenue while minimizing customer fatigue.

• Grow SMS subscriber lists through website capture forms, checkout consent, and post-purchase opportunities.

• Manage SMS subscriber segmentation, opt-in quality, and compliance.

• Ensure compliance with consent requirements, quiet hours, and transactional versus promotional messaging regulations.

• Subscription Retention

• Build and optimize email and SMS communication for subscription-based customers.

• Develop strategies to reduce subscription churn and improve customer lifetime value.

• Manage subscription lifecycle communications, including billing reminders, failed payment recovery, skip and delay options, cancellation saves, and replenishment.

• Segment customers based on subscription status, order history, and product consumption behavior.

• Identify opportunities to improve customer retention through lifecycle automation.

• Performance Analysis and Optimization

• Monitor email and SMS performance weekly, including revenue, revenue per recipient, open rates, click rates, conversion rates, unsubscribe rates, spam complaints, and subscriber growth.

• Analyze campaign and flow performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

• Conduct structured A/B testing and experiments using hypotheses, control groups, and measurable outcomes.

• Distinguish between attributed revenue and incremental revenue when evaluating campaign performance.

• Independently pull reports, interpret data, and communicate actionable performance insights.

• Identify underperforming campaigns and proactively recommend improvements.

• Creative Development and Campaign QA

• Build and adapt email creative using Figma or similar design tools.

• Create and maintain reusable email templates and layouts across multiple brands.

• Adapt creative assets and messaging to maintain each brand's identity.

• Independently handle straightforward creative adjustments without relying on designers.

• Perform thorough campaign QA, including links, personalization, rendering, segmentation, discount codes, and automation logic.

• AI and Process Optimization

• Use AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT to improve copywriting, segmentation, reporting, campaign QA, and workflow efficiency.

• Integrate AI into daily marketing workflows to improve productivity and execution quality.

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve marketing processes.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of direct, hands-on Klaviyo experience.

• Currently working directly inside Klaviyo and personally building flows, segments, templates, and campaigns.

• Demonstrated experience independently executing email marketing campaigns and lifecycle automation.

• Hands-on SMS marketing experience using Klaviyo SMS, Attentive, Postscript, or similar platforms.

• Direct ownership of SMS campaigns, flows, subscriber growth, and compliance.

• Direct-to-consumer (DTC) e-commerce experience, preferably with Shopify.

• Experience working with subscription-based e-commerce brands.

• Proven ability to improve email and SMS performance with measurable results.

• Strong understanding of lifecycle marketing, segmentation, customer retention, and subscription marketing.

• Excellent copywriting skills, particularly short-form marketing copy.

• Strong analytical skills and ability to independently pull reports, interpret data, and make optimization decisions.

• Understanding of email deliverability, list management, and inbox placement.

• Strong written English communication skills.

• Practical experience using AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT in marketing workflows.

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.

• Highly detail-oriented with strong campaign QA skills.

• Comfortable working US Eastern Time hours.

Important Role Clarification

This position is not suitable for candidates whose primary responsibilities involve:

• Managing agencies or external marketing vendors.

• Directing teams of email marketers, campaign managers, or designers.

• Developing lifecycle strategy without personally executing campaigns.

• Reviewing or approving work built by other team members.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate that they personally build and manage email and SMS marketing programs.

Nice to Have

• Experience using Figma or other design tools to create or adapt email creative.

• Experience with subscription platforms such as Recharge, Skio, or similar.

• Experience managing subscription retention strategies, including churn prevention, dunning, cancellation saves, and replenishment.

• Experience managing email and SMS marketing across multiple DTC brands simultaneously.

• Familiarity with review and UGC platforms such as Okendo or Yotpo.

• Experience with website capture and subscriber acquisition tools.

• Experience recovering email deliverability after a significant decline.

• Experience implementing AI-powered marketing workflows.
